Well here is a little history and overview of the band for all of you who don't know that much about KORN.
So read a little bit of history before you take a look inside of what has become of them!!!
KoRn's roots are way deeper than some may think. All of the members grew up in Bakersfield, California, and at one point or another all went to school together. Head and Munky met in schhol, and Munky sold Head his first guitar. Munky later became part of a Bakersfield band called L.A.P.D. (Love and Peace, Dude). L.A.P.D. was also made up of singer Richard Morales and future KoRn members Fieldy and David. Head would hang out at practices, and took part the band when they needed a second guitarist.
After Morales left the band, L.A.P.D. became Creep, and Head officially joined the band. But now the problem was, a singer. Well, Munky and Head went to a Bakersfield bar one night where another local band called Sex Art was to play. The two guitarists were just about to leave when Sex Art came on stage. The heard the singer, Jonathan Davis's voice, and stayed to watch the rest of the show. Munky and Head approached Davis about joining Creep, and ,although reluctant at first, went to try out. The chemistry between the five imediately clicked, and Jon became a permanant addition to the band. Soon after Davis joined, Creep changed their name to KoRn (check out several stories of where the name came from here).
The newly-formed KoRn recorded their four song demo tape including familiar song names such as "Blind," "Predictable," "Daddy," and the lesser-known "Alive" (the demo versions of "Blind" and "Daddy" are very different from the album versions. "Predictable" pretty much stayed the same, and "Alive" was re-incarnated into "Need To"). KoRn gained a small but respectable following in Bakersfield and even caught the eye of some record companies. KoRn was afraid that a record company may make them change their sound, but Immortal Records was supportive of this strange new kind of music. KoRn signed with Immortal and released their self-titled debut in 1994.
KoRn's first video was for "Blind," and of course MTV only aired it at 2 AM. But there were those kids that were up at 2 AM that saw the video and were interested in this new band. Despite this lack of media attention, KoRn's following grew. As KoRn toured small venues, they would be so crowded that fans would literally pour on stage (see: "Blind" video). KoRn released Life Is Peachy in 1996, and continued their heavy touring schedule, as the crowds got larger and larger at their shows. KoRn also released their home video, Who Then now in 1996.
Follow The Leader was released in 1998, and left the critics, and some long-time fans, in an uproar. Critics who were expecting a weak album were suprized that the album was actually good, while some fans bashed KoRn and cried "sell-out." KoRn played for Ozzfest that year, but dropped off the European leg so that Head could return home to his wife Rebekkah, who was about to give birth to his daughter Jenna. Later that year, however, KoRn was back on the road for the first Family Values Tour, which featured Limp Bizkit, Orgy, and Rammstein to name a few.
The members of KoRn then started their own record label, Elementree Records, in 1999, and signed Orgy almost right off the bat. A band called Videodrone followed soon after. KoRn also became part of Woodstock 99 along with Limp, Metallica, and Kid Rock. At this time KoRn's popularity had soared, and some of the band members weren't taking it so well. Jon, Munky, and Fieldy started fighting on a regular basis. Jon was battling alcoholism and severe depression, and even thought about quitting KoRn. But his love for his music and his fans brought him through, along with the medications Prozac and Dextrin.
The band smoothed out any other rough spots and released Issues in late 1999. The cover art was determined by a contest with MTV, where hopeful fans (like me!) sent in their artwork in hopes that it would be picked as the cover (actually, there were four winners. Check out the covers in the discography section. Unfortunately, mine wasn't one of them). Then in 2000, KoRn and Staind (along with Spike and Mike's Sick And Twisted Animation) did the Sick and Twisted Tour. David suffered a wrist injury halfway thru the tour, and was replaced by Mike Bordin (Faith No More/Ozzy Ozzbourne). After Sick And Twisted, KoRn joined the line-up for Summer Sanitarium, and are currently on their own Summer tour with Papa Roach and Powerman5000.
Now I think the question on everyone's mind now is "what about a new album?" I'll have tht information as soon as I can. But it should be soon, because it looks as if the boys from KoRn aren't about to sit down and take a breather.
